PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE
ใช้ในสถานการณ์ดังต่อไปนี้
- เมื่อมีเหตุการณ์เกิดขึ้น 2 เหตุการณ์ในอดีต โดยเหตุการณ์ 2 เหตุการณ์นั้นเกิดขึ้น
ในเวลาใกล้เคียงกัน เช่น
My sister was playing ping – pong when I returned home.
I was drawing when my brother came in.
The woman was walking across the bridge when we met her.
Mr. Manat and Peter were typing a letter when I arrived.
Tom was reading when his father went out.
- เมื่อมีเหตุการณ์เกิดขึ้น 2 เหตุการณ์พร้อม ๆ กันในอดีต ผู้พูดต้องการเน้นเวลา
ของเหตุการณ์ดังกล่าวว่าเกิดขึ้นในเวลาเดียวกัน ใช้ Past continuous tense ทั้ง 2 เหตุการณ์
ก็ได้ และมักใช้คำว่า while (ขณะที่) , as ในประโยค เช่น
I was playing while you were studying.
My father was working as my mother was cooking.
You were reading while they were watching television.
She was writing a letter as he was talking.
The children were eating while their mother was cooking.
โครงสร้าง Past continuous tense ; S + Verb to be + V1 – ing + (o)
(was, were)
- Past continuous tense มีโครงสร้างประโยคคล้าย Present continuous tense
- Past continuous tense มี Verb to be เป็น Auxiliary verb
- Verb to be ต้องเป็นรูป Past form คือ was, were จะใช้คำใดขึ้นอยู่กับประธาน
ของประโยคเช่นเดียวกับ Present continuous tense
- V1 – ing คือ กริยาหลักช่องที่ 1 ต้องเติม -ing ตามหลักการเติม -ing
การเปลี่ยน Past continuous tense ให้อยู่ในรูปปฏิเสธ
ให้เติม not หลัง Auxiliary verbs เช่น

การเปลี่ยน Past continuous tense ให้อยู่ในรูปประโยคคำถาม
1. คำถามแบบ Yes – No question เช่น

Was the woman waiting across the bridge when we met her?
Wasn’t the woman waiting across the bridge when we met her? Yes, she was waiting across the bridge when we met her. Yes, she was. No, she was waiting across the bridge when we met her. No, she was not. Were we waiting for a bus when we saw them? Weren’t we waiting for a bus when we saw them? Yes, we (you) were waiting for a bus when we saw them. Yes, we were. No, we were not waiting for a bus when we saw them. No, we were not. Was she writing a letter as he was talking? Wasn’t she writing a letter as he was talking? Yes, she was writing a letter as he was talking. Yes, she was. No, she was not writing a letter as he was talking. No, she was not. |
